The Association of the Friends of the Albert-Kahn Museum strives to contribute to the spread of the philosophy and the work of Albert Kahn.

A banker, patron and humanist, Albert Kahn built a rich and complex body of work in the service of peace and creating dialogue between cultures.

The Association of the Friends of the Albert-Kahn Museum is bestowing grants for photographers engaged in works that combine photography and the humanities in accordance with the humanistic values embodied by Albert Kahn, who advocated openness to the world and respect for each other.

The objective of these grants is to financially support, honor, encourage and promote photographic artists who use their talent in order to contribute to knowledge of the world and discovering regions and populations. Through an annual event the association enables discussions between experts in the world of photography and photographers dedicated to the exploration of regions and populations.

Festival directors, photo editors, journalists, gallerists, art critics, collectors, curators, and art centre directors will meet photographers over this week-end event.

Among the experts:

Françoise DENOYELLE (Curatour and President of the Jury), Christian CAUJOLLE (Curator and founder of Agence VU’), Caroline STEIN (Director of Sponsorship at Banque Neuflize OBC), Nathalie BOCHER-LENOIR (President of the Niepce Award), Miranda SALT (Gallery Miranda), Eric MEYER (Chief photo editor of the Magazine Géo), Lidwine KERVELLA (Photo editor of the magazine Courrier International), Valérie-Anne GISCARD-D’ESTAING (Gallery Photo12), Stanislas HENRY (Collector), Sarah GIRARD (Director of the Journées photographiques de Bienne), Odile ANDRIEU (Director of the Festival des Promenades photographiques), Hélène ANGELINA MEDORI (In charge of cultural development for ARTE)…

THE CONCEPT

Photographers will present their work one-on-one with an art expert of their choice for a session of 20 minutes in a relaxed but professional atmosphere. Photographers will be able to meet their preferred expert depending on the available places and time slots.

The aim of this project is to provide an opportunity to each artist to have a candid conversation on photography with experts in the field. It is also a unique opportunity to advance their photographic careers by providing the following:

  • Giving exposure to their work,
  • Discovering new opportunities, expositions and press,
  • Finding financing for a project,
  • Consideration for a prize or a grant,
  • Receiving opinions and professional advice, benefiting from the experienced eye of a professional and receiving a critical assessment of their work.

The list of experts is continually evolving, make sure you come back to our site regularly.

At the end of the review a jury comprised of experts from the world of photography and chaired by Françoise DENOYELLE, will select 10 finalists, and among those, several winners who will receive a grant of €5000, plus €1000 of conferences or studio events with the public of the Albert-Kahn Museum.

For the winners it is an opportunity to finance a new project and to make themselves known to a public of professionals, experts of the photography market, collectors, patrons and researchers from the world of photography.

The Albert-Kahn museum being currently closed for renovation works, the winners of the grants of Amis du Musée Albert-Kahn will be exhibited in 2020, in Vendôme, during the festival « Promenades Photographiques ». The 10 finalists will have their work shown in projections during the time of the festival, from June to September 2020.
